The Dunmore Show: The GRASSMEN's Pilgrimage

Schlüter Super 650 resurrection

Übersetzen auf Deutsch

Michael kelly’s second Schlüter, this time a much more rare model he found abandoned in briars in co. clare. A Schlüter super 650.

A man in clare who used hired out to farmers for work in the local area in clare & one day abandoned when the clutch went in it, it is remarkable to say the least that it just started with very little effort. everything exposed is siezed solid naturally enough, but the powerhouse that is the 6 cylinder water cooled Schlüter engine was in perfect working order. it is a testiment to the build quality of these hand-built german beasts. Suprising to say the least that the rev guage still worked despite quite literally everything else being siezed solid.

having once looked like this:

to be found like this under palm trees, having to be pulled out by an excavator

until we started it one saturday in july 2011, Mike, out of pure pride for his resurrection of what once was a masterpiece by Anton Schlüter, decided to bring it to a show the following day in Co. Mayo. The trip down felt wasted after the effort of loading & transporting the virtually siezed relic, only to have it called a zetor & asked would it lift a round bale.

Is it ignorance, or simply a well kept secret of the genius & excellence of build quality to the tractors that bore the brand Schlüter

Michael Kelly has some job ahead of him to get this lady up to the standard he restored the last one he painstakingly restored over 5 years: click here to see mikes Schlüter Super 1500 TVL

Mike, the Mountbellew lads take little over 6 mins to put a Ferguson 20 together, how does it take you 5 years?  😉

4/8/2011 Local market day in Dunmore
we decided to bring it to put on display after getting it started only a few days before

Beginning of restoration:

Cleaned down to original paint & etch primer, PTO handle, Gear Linkages & Diff Lock now working perfect

October 2012

Tractor was split, and an oil contaminated clutch disk was found, the reason for the tractor being parked in the first place.  The open design of the top of the gearbox under the diesel tank being possibly the sole cause for the leaking of diesel & oil into the bellhousing, could it possibly be a design flaw to such a magnificent tractor?

Following the new clutch and all that was standing in the way of this machine to drive under its own power on a road once more was the steering. Several failed attempts to free the steering box, mike made the decision to fit a hydrostatic orbital unit. New pipes were fitted from the hydraulic pump to the orbital unit and back to the lift top as the remains of the old pipes were unusable with rust.
A tractor pulling weekend was organised in Dunmore, and it made a perfect excuse to bring the Schlüter out for a spin and a pull alongside its bigger Sister, the 1500TVL. Two of these pulling at one event in Ireland, most definitely a rare sight.
